Description

This splitting knife, also known as a "départoir", can be used for both manual work and violin making, thanks to its ergonomics, sturdiness and the quality of its materials.

Manufactured in a small European forge by a company that has been in business for over 170 years and makes it a point of honor not to use substances harmful to the environment, this cleaving knife has been designed using a traditional hand-forging technique.

The handle is turned from robinia wood, a species that tolerates humidity well and therefore needs no chemical treatment. This is why the handle is finished with Urushi, an all-natural lacquer that resists water, heat and weather. The shape of this handle ensures a good grip on the tool.

The 26.5 cm-long blade is forged from C-60 carbon steel, making it very rigid, with good abrasion resistance and the ability to hold its shape despite repeated blows.

All these features make it a solid tool for splitting shingles, bars and other splinters.
